5 Charlottetown Cafes for Book Lovers

5 Best Places to Book a Coffee Date in Charlottetown, PEI

Coffee-lovers and book-lovers share a common DNA, so we picked five of our favourite Charlottetown cafes that appeal to bookish types in need of a java fix.

#1) Receiver Coffee

Receiver Coffee operates two locations in Charlottetown: the original sit-down on Victoria Street and the newer Receiver Brass Shop down on Water Street, which tends to attract the coffee-to-go crowd and houses the coffee roasting operation.  Both locations stock excellent baked goods. The Victoria Street café is ideal for breakfast, brunch or lunch. Thumbs up to the avocado on toast. Partners Chris Francis and Sean Bruinooge, who honed their coffee-brewing skills at Kettle Black (see below), also sell their coffee online.  I practically inhaled the Rwanda Shangi brew, which has hints of toffee and black tea.

Clientele most likely to read: Jack Kerouac fans (remember the classic “On the Road”) have been spotted, as have millennials reading Daniel Wolff’s dual biography, “Grown-Up Anger: The Connected Mysteries of Bob Dylan, Woody Guthrie, and the Calumet Massacre of 1913.”

His last big hike: Doug walked the 800-km Camino de Santiago across Northern Spain.

His last (most memorable) meal: “After a long hike in Europe during which I only ate healthy food, I found myself at Gatwick Airport and there in front of me was a Jamie Oliver restaurant offering a traditional English breakfast. I ate fried everything!”
