Playing Red Dog uses a standard 52 card deck and you can find online casinos that use a single deck or an 8 deck shoe to play. The cards are ranked the same as they are in poker with Aces always high.
The game starts as the dealer deals 2 cards face up and to win the game you must receive a card that falls between the cards dealt. For example if a 9 and Ace are dealt you must receive a 10, Jack, Queen or King to win the game.

When the spread is declared the player then receives odds based on what the spread is. If it is a 1 card spread the player receives 5:1 odds if they win, a 2 card spread pays 4:1, a 3 card spread pays 2:1 and a 4 to 11 card spread pays even money. When the spread is declared the player has a chance to double their bet if they so wish. A basic strategy is to only double when the spread is 7 or more which is when the odds are in the players favor of receiving a card that falls between the two cards.
While the above explanation may sound a little complicated, Red Dog is actually a very easy game to play. You basically just have to receive a card in between two previously dealt cards. If you do you win, if you don't you lose.
