5 Cool Ways to Connect with Mother Nature On a City Break in Vancouver

#2) Grouse Mountain: Easy or Challenging Option

If terms like “lunges,” “cardio,” “Stairmaster” and “squats” float your boat, then climbing the 2,830 steps up Grouse Mountain (it’s called the Grouse Grind) is for you. The 2.9-km ascent has an elevation gain of 853 metres, which is great for toning those thigh muscles. If you’re disinclined to hoof it up the mountain, no sweat, no judgment. Just take the Super Skyride Aerial Tramway.

In addition to the awesome views from the top of Grouse Mountain, there’s zip-lining, the grizzly bear habitat, owl interpretive sessions, guided eco-walks, rangers talks and scenic mountain biking. Or sit under a tree and inhale the beauty of Mother Nature.

Bonus: there’s a free shuttle from Canada Place to the base of Grouse Mountain in summer months.

His last big hike: Doug walked the 800-km Camino de Santiago across Northern Spain.

His last (most memorable) meal: “After a long hike in Europe during which I only ate healthy food, I found myself at Gatwick Airport and there in front of me was a Jamie Oliver restaurant offering a traditional English breakfast. I ate fried everything!”
