Getting crowned the best sweet shop in Calgary is a tough ordeal; there’s some serious competition for the crown. From moist, succulent cakes to fluffy macaroons, here’s where to get your dessert fix in Cowtown.

Yann Haute Patisserie

The head chef and owner of this pastry house have received the Michelin Stars equivalent distinction for pastries: the Relais Desserts Association, and if you’ve ever bitten into a pistachio macaroon from Yann Haute Patisserie you know why. Head to this bright yellow house that lives up to the hype for macaroons, cakes, and more. Try the peanut butter cake, where the crunch of peanuts meets the magic of chocolate ganache.

Sucre Patisserie & Café

Sucre is home to the trendy cruffins, muffin-shaped croissants that are filled with cream right when you order them. Everything is made from scratch at this bakery and many items are seasonal, so call before you drop by or be ready for surprise treats. Pick up an almond croissant made with imported European butter or try a slice of the Black Forest cake that is soaked in a made-from-scratch sour cherry syrup and topped with cherry compote. Did someone say moist?

Yum Bakery

Farmer’s markets often have a dessert place hidden away that is worth its weight in gold. Thankfully, Calgary does have such a hidden treasure, Yum Bakery. Yum has some of the best cakes in Cowtown. Their carrot cake and chocolate hazelnut cake are our favourites and there’s also cannoli, scones, and pie on the menu.

Éclair de Lune

If you’ve ever dreamt of eating a cake version of a Ferrero-Rocher chocolate, head to Éclair de Lune and order the croquant noisette. This hazelnut and chocolate creation is a staple on birthdays around here. Madeleines, biscottis, and cream puffs are just some of many reasons to head to this haven for French desserts.
